Outback Day

We had a great outback day today.  Again, it was a warm one and campers used many strategies to stay cool!  Outback Day is a day were campers choose two different choices to participate in for a longer period.  Instead of 40 minutes, campers have 2 hours to really delve into an activity or attempt a more challenging task.

One of our most exciting choices for the morning session was a fire building activity.  In this activity, campers first learned how to stay safe around a fire by establishing a safety zone and having water and a fire extinguisher nearby.  They then learned the three main components of a fire and different ways to build a fire.  The goal of the activity was to build a fire that reached a certain vertical height to burn through strings layered above the fire.  Campers built a great fire that burned through all three strings!

In the afternoon, we had a brave and determined group of campers that hiked all the way around the reservoir!  2.7 miles!  Congratulations to those campers.  Many water breaks were taken and spirits remained high throughout!  Many campers also hung out on the docks doing some fishing.  Due to the high temperatures, campers had an opportunity to wrap up fishing early, return to a shady spot on the lawn, and learn about some different fishing pole rigs from Fisherman Josh.

We’re all looking forward to a great last day of camp!
