Free Camp for Your Kids
For parents: your children can attend Roughing It Day Camp for free (up to 8 weeks) when you work year-round and the complete summer. Camp tuition is valued at up to $9,000 per child.

Policy and Guideline Documents
Work Schedule
School-Year Season: This is a part-time position (10-20 hours/week). A typical work schedule is Mon-Fri 10am-2pm (20 hours/week). We are flexible with creating a work schedule that takes into account your other commitments while remaining consistent week to week.
Summer Season: Hours increase during the busy summer season, June 1st through Labor Day, 25-30 hours/week. A typical summer work schedule is Mon-Fri between the hours of 9-5 with a 1/2-hour lunch.
Hybrid Work: Work virtually and in-person at our office during the school year. More in-person work can be expected at the start of the position to account for in-person training. Our offices are located in Lafayette with easy access from the freeway.

About the Marketing Assistant Position
The Marketing Assistant helps communicate with camper families through various forms of media, creating and managing content, as well as assisting with general office duties and projects. They also help in marketing and communication areas, including analytics and inbound marketing.
Roughing It Office Culture

We have a strong focus on providing an exceptional experience to our campers and families. The camp office is fast paced, team centered, and there are times when staff may be assigned to projects not related to their core duties.
Primary Duties
- Produce and edit media content for: emails, newsletters, the Roughing It website, blogs, videos, and slideshows
- Create and manage email/mail campaigns
- Keep Roughing It social media profiles up to date by posting current and relevant content
- Create posts and maintain Camper Caboodle (our internal website for camp families for photos and news).
- Organize photo and content curation systems
- Assist in updating Roughing It’s website, including text, photo, and video updates
- Edit photos in Adobe Photoshop and Light room
- Create and edit marketing videos
- Create and update marketing media: newsletters (monthly / weekly), flyers, brochures, ads, etc.
- Produce database reports from various databases
- Preparing materials for mailing and shipping
General Office & Customer Support Duties
All of our year-round staff participate and assist in various general office tasks to support our customer and staff recruiting efforts. Some examples of these general office tasks that we all help with are:
- Serves as camp receptionist with friendly routing of all telephone communication
- Customer service: assisting camper families and prospective customers including daily communication (phone and email)
- Answer questions about customer accounts from camper families and assist with camper registration
- Scan, file and organize documents
- Customer Service: provide camp information to camp families and respond via email and phone to camper inquiries
- Represents Roughing It at Events
Ability to Learn & Master New Software
All positions require a strong knowledge of Windows based programs and the ability to learn new computer software. Programs used in our office include:
- Microsoft Word, Outlook, Powerpoint, etc.
- Internet Explorer
- Adobe Photoshop & Lightroom
- Hubspot (lead database programs)
- CampMinder (camper registration program)
- Camper Caboodle (camp blog and community website)

Qualifications for Marketing Assistant
- Strong knowledge of Windows-based programs – MS Word, MS Outlook, Chrome
- Knowledge and experience with Adobe Photoshop & Adobe Lightroom
- Excellent writing skills, customer service skills, and phone and email communication skills
- Ability to perform general office duties.
- The ability to learn new programs, including blog programs, the Roughing It website, and lead and camper management database programs.
- Valid driver’s license and good driving record
- Ability to work independently and accurately
- Lift approximately 30 pounds
- Ability to sit for extended periods of time (4-8 hours/day)
- Able to walk 1/2 mile uphill (from the Lafayette Reservoir parking lot to the East Field) of the Reservoir and down to all docks.
- Can assist/work outside for events for up to 6 hours
- Ability to comply with Roughing It policies and procedures, including but not limited to Staff Dress Code and Staff Personnel Policies
