Blake Wilson
Swim Director, 2nd Year Staff Member
University of Nevada – Criminal Justice
Blake grew up in Martinez and is a Roughing It alumni camper! He graduated from De La Salle High School and just finished his third year at University of Nevada, Reno studying criminal justice. Blake was an athlete on the Forest Hills Swim Team for 8 years and won the Coach Award trophy. Additionally, he worked at Forest Hills as a pool attendant. As a former camper and swim counselor, he understands the values of the camp and is excited to bring them to his new role of swim director!
Leah Transue
Assistant Swim Director, 1st Year Staff Member
University of Nevada
Leah has been swimming her whole life, beginning on the swim team when she was 5 years old. She was on the Las Lomas swim team for all four years of high school and has been teaching swimming to children since she was 13 years old! She loves sports and even played soccer through high school. She is transferring from DVC to University of Nevada in Reno, where she is excited to get started! Leah is looking forward to bringing her experience with teaching swimming at the pool this summer and to meeting all the campers!
Mia Turner

CSU Chico – Business Marketing major
Mia is joining the swim staff for her first summer with us. Mia did swim team for 12 years and 3 years in High School. She played a variety of sports growing up. Mia is an incoming Senior at CSU Chico studying Business Marketing. We are excited to have Mia at the pool this year!
Olivia "Liv" Leigh
Swim Counselor, 1st Year Staff Member
James Madison University – Political Science major
Olivia is a new staff member this summer at the pool, and we are so excited to have her on board! She is a rising junior at James Madison University, studying Political Science. She is from Danville and has extensive swimming and waterfront experience. Olivia brings a positive attitude and strong work ethic!
James Brophy
Swim Counselor, 1st Year Staff Member
UC Merced – Political Science major
James is a Lafayette native and previous camper at Roughing It! He attends UC Merced, majoring in political science and taking part in Model UN. James has extensive swimming experience, having worked as a swim instructor for East Bay Sea Serpents for four years. He is excited to get in the pool and make sure everyone has fun this summer!
Stephen Klein
Swim Counselor, 1st Year Staff Member
Washington University – Biology major
Stephen is joining us this summer for the first time! He is an Orinda native with extensive swim experience, having spent eight years swimming for the Orinda Country Club. He loves to swim and enjoys spending his time volunteering for the Special Olympics organization and East Bay Sea Serpents, which aims to teach those with special needs how to swim. Stephen loves the outdoors and has even gone on a 26-day backpacking trip in Death Valley. Welcome Stephen!
Daniel "Danny" Hill
Swim Counselor, 1st Year Staff Member
UC Berkeley – Electrical Engineering and Computer Science major
Daniel is enjoying his first summer here with us at Roughing It! He is from Berkeley, and is currently attending UC Berkeley, where he is studying Electrical Engineering and Computer Science. He has lots of camping experience and has played many sports, including water polo and football. Daniel attended a variety of camps when he was younger and is excited to bring his experience working with children to camp!
