The CILTs, Campers In Leadership Training, spend their days at camp enjoying camp activities while developing valuable leadership skills by aiding younger campers and extending their own camp knowledge to those around them. As leaders in their camp community, they took their service role and extended it beyond our own camp by taking on a community service project this past summer: they organized a fundraiser for Camp Sizanani that lasted throughout our Summer 2012 season.
Camp Sizanani is a program that provides South Africa’s vulnerable children and youth affected by HIV/AIDS with an opportunity to attend camp completely free of charge. They particpate in a residential camp that provides fun learning experiences through traditional camp activities like sports and swimming, while incorporating prevention education and training that equips the youth with life skills to help them become healthy, succesful adults with a brighter hope for the future. This program is 100% donor supported, and this year the CILT’s organization helped raise enough money to provide more children with the opportunity to attend this camp.
