February 1 is I ♥ Camp day! This is a day dedicated to celebrating the magic of camp and how it positively affects our lives. There are countless reasons to love camp, but here are 12 of our favorites!
Being Outside: Summer camps provide an opportunity for children to get outside and be active in the fresh air. Many children today are inside a classroom for most of the year, or spend hours in front of a screen, and they don’t usually get the chance to learn and experience nature first-hand.
Unplug from Technology: At camp, children get the opportunity to switch off their phones and get off the computer. They get chance to unplug from technology and connect with nature instead of the internet.
Making New Friends: Campers are grouped together by age group, so they get to hang out with a lot of children their own age. This makes it easier to be friends.
Role Models: Camp counselors provide positive role models for campers. They are all adults who campers can find easy to talk to.
Memories: Going to camp provides memories that will last a lifetime. Campers will remember and benefit from the skills they learn and the people they meet.
Community: Camp provides a caring, loving community of people who are all excited to learn new things and make new memories with each other.
Teamwork, Collaboration, and Communication: – 21st Century Skills: Campers face challenges, and overcome obstacles by working together as a team. They learn valuable life skills, like teamwork and communication, which they can use outside of camp.
New Experiences: Campers get to try new things that they do not get to learn in school. There are many activities at camp, like fishing and horseback riding, which many children would not get a chance to experience anywhere else.
Spirit and Traditions: Camps have their own traditions which helps connect campers together and create a unique experience that cannot be found anywhere else.
Fun and Play: Campers are encouraged to have fun and to play all the time, which they only get in very small amounts at school. It is important to give campers a chance to run around and learn new things in a different way.
Different Learning Environment: Camp provides children with a way to learn things in a different kind of environment. Instead of reading about nature in a classroom while sitting behind a desk, campers actually experience nature and learn things hands-on.
Self Esteem and Confidence: Camp provides opportunities to build up self esteem and confidence, which will last campers for a lifetime.
