Feb 1st is officially I ♥ camp day! I ♥ Camp day is about loving camp and celebrating camp spirit around the country. It is a great time to look at all the reasons why we love camp. Here are some of our favorite things about summer camp and why camp still holds a special spot in campers of all ages hearts today.
Camp Friends – At camp you have the opportunity to make real connections, bond and make life long friends. Many of us have met our best friends at camp.
Camp Community – The camp environment by design is supportive and inclusive. You are living and spending all day with other friends your own age guided by caring, nurturing adult counselors who are there just for you! This fosters team work, group spirit and a sense of community.
Camp Sprit & Traditions – All camps have their own special songs, cheers, annual ceremonies, t-shirts, and theme days. These camp traditions build camaraderie and makes us feel a part of something bigger then yourself.
Camp Counselors & Positive Role Models – Camp give kids a chance to spend time with caring adults who are positive role models. Camp counselors are mentors that help guide and support children. Camp counselors are positive role models who kids can look up to and adults that can kids can talk with.
Time To Be Outside – Camp provides us with extended time to be outdoors and to connect with nature, to learn about the environment, and to develop an appreciation of the natural world.
New Experiences – Camp gives us so many opportunities to try new things, learn new skills and discover new things about ourselves. The experience of going to camp for the first time or trying something new gives new confidence and shapes your identity as a person.
Fun & Play! – Camp is all about having fun and playing which is so important to kids and all of us today. Children especially need opportunities to play and be outside because this how they learn.
Camp Memories Last a Lifetime – The power of camp stays with you and leaves a lasting impression. Talk with anyone who went to camp they will have many of their own stories, songs and memories to share.
The American Camp Association produced a great video called Because of Camp that talks about the importance of camp in shaping lives of some well known people and reasons we should all go to camp.
